Traumatic brain injury is classified by the type of damage it causes to the skull. The main types of are Compounded Skull Fracture, Depressed Skull Fracture, Closed Head Injury.

Closed head injuries can be further separated into simple concussions (no degree of structural damage to the brain), and destruction of brain tissue.

Traumatic Brain Injury cases are much more difficult and expensive to pursue than a normal personal injury claim. Given the complex nature of these types of injuries, experts are generally needed to opine on the extent and cause of the victim’s injuries. This could cost tens of thousands of dollars if taken to trial.

Loss of consciousness is a strong indication that there may be brain injury, however, even a conscious patient may demonstrate signs of brain injury. The following symptoms may require immediately neurological consultation:

• Slurred speech
• Seizures
• Loss of Coordination
• Mental Confusion
• One-sided neurological deficit
• Vomiting or nausea
• Severe or worsening headaches
• confusion
• Change in sleep
• Ringing in the ears
• Memory Loss
